In a Nutshell

Aloe Care Health is the new kid on the block, and it’s bringing with it some of the coolest gadgets, updates, and features to hit the medical alert systems scene. With smart home connectivity, automatic fall detection, and, wait for it, voice-activated help buttons that connect to 24/7 emergency responders, Aloe Care blows most of the competition out of the water. But does this medical alert system live up to the hype? Let’s find out.

Pros

  • Voice-controlled alert system
  • Excellent mobile app, lots of functionality
  • Automatic fall detection included
  • 5 Diamond TMC monitoring centers

Cons

  • Equipment not covered by monthly subscription
  • Some devices require WIFI connection

Best For:

  • Smart home connection and feature monitoring
  • High-risk fallers
  • Seniors who want to live independently and securely

Monitoring Services

Aloe Care Health has emergency support 24/7/365. Users can easily press the black help button to get in touch with a trained emergency responder. Alternatively, you can take advantage of the voice-activated system by saying the word Emergency and speaking directly to the system. Either way, you will be connected to the Aloe Care response monitoring center with a two-way call to a responder who will ask you about your current situation or emergency and send the appropriate help right away.

  • In the event of an emergency, you or your loved one presses the medical alert button on their wearable device.
  • The responder will speak to you directly through the medical alert system to assess the situation.
  • Depending on the responder’s conclusion, the responder will contact the appropriate parties. This may be the emergency contact you have listed on your account, emergency medical services, police, or fire department depending on the particular situation.

Meanwhile, the responder stays on the line with you until help arrives. But what makes UnaliWear really stand out is the fact that you can use the Kanega watch even if you can’t press a button. The voice controls allow you to simply call out if you ever need help. We’ll talk more about this in the product features section below.

Also worth noting, the UnaliWear monitoring centers are TMA 5-Diamond and UL-certified. These letters and numbers don’t mean much to most people, but it translates to superior quality response teams, trained emergency responders, and a 4G coverage network.

Product Features

UnaliWear has an impressive array of features. Not your grandma’s medical alert device, the Kanega watch was designed with style and comfort (as well as functionality) in mind. Lightweight and stylish, the watch is meant to do away the stigma of feebleness that the clunkier, more traditional medical alert systems are associated with. The sleek design is fashionable, so seniors are more likely to wear it, making it an overall more effective option. Additionally, these are some features we were impressed within the Kanega watch:

Voice controls

Probably the coolest feature of all, the UnaliWear medical alert system is fully voice-controlled. That means if the person is ever unable to press the alert button, they can still get help by simply calling out to the system. This is an invaluable feature because often in an emergency situation, the wearer cannot press the button because they can’t reach it, they are too weak to press the button, or they are unconscious or disoriented. Voice activation is also an important feature for the many seniors who suffer from arthritis.

Smartwatch functionality

In addition to voice controls, the Kanega watch functions as a smartwatch, with downloadable apps for greater functionality and usability. Things like stylish watch faces, music apps, and phone calling apps make the life of a senior easier and more enjoyable on many levels.

Medication reminders

Another great feature, medication reminders ensure that the wearer never forgets their daily medications again. You can set up multiple reminders based on your schedule.

GPS location services

The GPS-based location services help you track where your loved one is at all times. You can also see a map of their comings and goings, helping you maintain their safety, independence, and dignity all at the same time.

Patented battery system

Here’s a convenient feature that we also rank highly. UnaliWear includes a backup battery with your equipment purchase, so you are never left without the watch because it needs to be charged. Additionally, the Kanega watch has a built-in low battery reminder that tells you when it’s time.

Waterproof

Since many falls and accidents occur in the shower or tub, this is another important feature. The Kanega watch can be worn in the shower, during sports games, and while doing other physical activities.

Fall detection built-in

Best of all, UnaliWear has fall detection built into each Kanega watch. This is the most important feature of a medical alert system. And since you usually have to pay extra for the feature, UnaliWear really does you a favor by including it in your plan.

Installation Process

As a wearable device, UnaliWear requires no installation. You can plug in the charger to any outlet and swap out and charge your battery when the first one dies.

Contract & Fees

Annual Plan Monthly Plan
Price for watch $99 $399
Price for service $59.95 per month $69.95 per month
Activation fees $50 $50
Fall detection Yes Yes
GPS tracking Yes Yes

UnaliWear is more expensive than most medical alert systems. Between the advanced technology, style, and comfort, I guess it’s a matter of you get what you pay for. One thing to keep in mind when making a price comparison is that UnaliWear includes fall detection with all of its plans, something that other medical alert services charge extra for. So, while the Kanega is more expensive, it’s not exorbitant relative to other brands.

You’ll pay for the equipment and the monitoring services separately. With each plan, you’ll get:

  • The Kanega style smartwatch
  • Four batteries
  • Battery charged
  • Accented bezel and crown button
  • Comfort-mesh stainless steel adjustable wristband

UnaliWear has a 30-day trial period. So you can really test out the device before making a commitment.

Customer Service

UnaliWear has email and phone customer support available during business hours. You can also look on the FAQ section of the site for easy answers. UnaliWear also has detailed how-to videos that will walk you through some of the most common questions users have, like how to change your Kanega watch battery and how to get started with your smartwatch.

For emergencies, UnaliWear has monitoring centers with responders available 24/7.

Customer Testimonials

“The Kanega Watch is my 'go-with-me', ever present companion. I really didn't want to wear a pendant, so this is the perfect option. Nobody has to know I have a medical alert device on and I can still brag to people about the watch if I want to. And I love the fact that, in an emergency, the watch connects with a care specialist who knows my medical info and history - to share with the EMTs if that is necessary. Plus, UnaliWear has incredible customer service - from purchase to on-boarding to any questions or comments I have since I started wearing it. I would highly recommend this company and the Kanega Watch to anyone at risk of a fall or other emergencies.” - Paul M

“I am extremely satisfied with Unaliwear and the Kanega watch. I`ve had it a few months now, and it does everything it is supposed to do perfectly. No more pendants for me. I change the batteries every morning and don`t believe I`ve taken the watch off more than twice since I've had it. I strongly recommend that you try it.“ - Doug

“I am so pleased with my Kanega watch which is also an alert system, as well as with the people at Unali service and highly recommend both. I had used another alert system which required use of my cell phone nearby and I could only use pendant for fall detection and battery was hard to change. Kanega solved that and I feel free and secure.” - Garnet P

Bottom Line

UnaliWear is the chic of the chic when it comes to medical alert systems. Gone are the chunky, clunky medical alert devices that label you as old and incapable. With the UnaliWear Kanega watch, you can strut your stuff confidently, knowing that someone is always available to help when you need it. The smartwatch functionality, voice-activated help button, and medication reminders certainly sweeten the pot as well.

About UnaliWear

UnaliWear is a family-run business that began when founder Jean Anne Booth was not impressed with the options available for her aging mother. Taking matters into her own hands, Booth created an impressive synergy of technology, style, and comfort that would also ensure the safety and security of her dear old mom no matter where she was. Using Artificial Intelligence and other tech advancements, the Kanega watch was born. Recently, UnaliWear won the Best IoT Device Award in 2019 at the VOICE Summit for its innovative medical alert technology.
